An issue with some Asterisk versions (1.4) and DTMF. Setting rtpkeepalive enabled blocks/mutes DTMF which is caused by the transmission of comfort noise, which in effect cancels the sending of DTMF. To resolve this issue set rtpkeepalive=0.

Feb 23, 2015 · Asterisk doesn't FFT. Tone decoding is ONLY done for inband. For other schemes, the tones are already decoded to digits. GSM codecs are incompatible with DTMF, so DTMF tones never come from the phone in GSM networks; they come from the basestation, or a mobile switching centre.

Can't you try other settings for dtmf-relay? I would be suspicious of a value called sip-notify because the SIP protocol does include NOTIFY requests which are different to INFO requests. However, Asterisk does not support receipt of dtmf via NOTIFY messages, only via INFO messages.

dtmf=inband. Anyone have any suggestions what to try? I ran across a post at one point talking about adjusting the timing that * uses for the length of the tone, but I can’t find that again, and am starting to wonder if I imagined it. 711 is the only protocol supported by the softswitch.
