By enabling the option Enable native XMLHTTP support in Advnaced tab of IE fixes the issue. Since we prefers native XMLHTTP object over ActiveXObject, the exception might be caused due to using ActiveXObject. But still not sure what could be the root cause or is there any other better way to solve the issue. We use IE8.

Jun 20, 2016 · Disable option "Enable Native XMLHTTP". This setting is recommended only for customers using HFM 9.3.1 or older with IE 7 . If you are using version 11.1.1.x of EPM products or newer, this option should be enabled.

To fix this issue the user will need to enable native XMLHTTP support by going to: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced, scrolling down to security and ticking the box next to Enable Native XMLHTTP Support, then click OK.
