Jul 11, 2019 · You just need to configure the static trunk to use IP hashing. I don't know cisco switches but with the Procurve switches you need to do this. Basically ESXi doesn't support lacp unless you use the vDS switch and the only way to use the vDS switch is to be licensed for it.

With LACP support on a vSphere Distributed Switch, you can connect ESXi hosts to physical switches by using dynamic link aggregation. You can create multiple link aggregation groups (LAGs) on a distributed switch to aggregate the bandwidth of physical NICs on ESXi hosts that are connected to LACP port channels.. Figure 1.

Do not use beacon probing with IP HASH load balancing. Do not configure standby or unused uplinks with IP HASH load balancing. We only support one EtherChannel per vSwitch or vNetwork Distributed Switch (vDS). Lower model Cisco switches may have MAC-SRC-DST set by default, and may require additional configuration.

Oct 18, 2009 · Based on my understanding, LACP is the dynamic part of the 802.3ad spec for link aggregation. You can use 802.3ad static with ESX, but not LACP (or dynamic link aggregation) because we don't support it. As far as I know, there are no plans to support it - but then I am not in product management.

LACP support is available since vSphere 5.1 and it helps connecting Esxi hosts to physical switches by using dynamic link aggregation. To aggregate the bandwidth of multiple physical NICs (that are connected to LACP port channels) on a host, LAG is created on vDS and use it to handle the traffic of distributed port groups.
