Jan 07, 2012 · Latest version of linux kernel has trim support however does it apply to ext4 or can ext3 have trim too? Basically, if it depends on the kernel version and you upgrade the distro to latest kernel version (debian squeeze etc), will it have support for ext3 trim?

Jul 04, 2014 · I'm trying to install XenServer 6.2 onto a Dell 2950 where I've got an Intel 320 40GB SSD set to be the boot disk. My issue is that even under "Advanced" mode, there is no interaction I have access to to specify a ext4 filesystem for dom0 (it installs as ext3) so that I can add "discard" into fstab and get TRIM support for my boot SSD.

Ext3 is backward-compatible to Ext2 - an Ext3 volume can be mounted and used as an Ext2 volume.
