May 08, 2008 · i'm running into this exact problem now with hfsplus hdd's and fedora 8. my gf took my macbook out of town for the week so i can't disable journaling until next week but does anyone know if there is a workaround for the fact that timemachine on my mac requires journaling and hsfplus support in fedora requires it be turned off?

Sep 29, 2011 · My Oracle Enterprise Linux will not mount these volumes, returning an error: Unknown filesystem type 'hfsplus'. From my brief searches, the Linux Kernel supports HFSPLUS file systems. Fedora could have it as a module or not at all but you could always recompile the kernel. :) hfs+ is the default filesystem for Mac OsX. hfs was the old mac file system. they are not the same and a hfs+ will mount as an hfs partition but all that will be on the disk is a waning that it's not a hfs filesystem.

I have a HFS+ journaled external hard-drive and need to be able to write to it on Ubuntu. I don't have access to my Mac, it's thousands of miles away and I won't have access to it for three months. Can anything be done without losing the data on the HDD?
