Oct 08, 2007 · I'm trying to use SSL for sending SMTP mail, but I see the "No SSL support in this build" message. I'm doing this on Redhat EL and php is compiled '--with-openssl' as expected. In fact, I'm using PHPmailer successfully on the same server and PHP build with SSL - in a non-drupal script. I'm therefore certain that SSL availability on PHP is not the problem. Any ideas? Thanks

The spellchecker worked fine when I left work yesterday, and it worked fine last night when I showed someone it... However, I came in to work today and all of the sudden I'm getting two errors... The first being: fsockopen ...

PHP: fsockopen - Manual

    https://www.php.net/manual/en/function.fsockopen.php
For some reason the default FreeBSD 7.0 port (jailed environment) breaks fsockopen() on SSL URLs, returning a constant stream of nothing! In my case this resulted in php-cgi bringing down lighttpd completely, in rapid time! Avoid FreeBSD/jails/fsockopen + SSL. Use curl_init() instead.
