Jul 14, 2011 · Newer software will not change the fact that GIF does not support partial transparency. It is either there or it is not. The transient white pixel you see is the software trying to figure out what to do with a partially transparent pixel.

Aug 12, 2016 · @RodneyBaker @2dvision I have tried every option I can think of and ffmpeg (including variations on things you posted) and can't get png to keep transparency when going to gif.. I can get imagemagick to work, however, so that is an option. I don't think the output is as nice as the palette generated gif from ffmpeg, but if transparency is needed, that would work.

Feb 27, 2011 · PNG pretty much obsoletes GIF in nearly all cases except for animation (although it still have a little bit of browser support problem, IE6 doesn't support PNG's alpha transparency although regular GIF-like transparency is no problem). PNG is lossless format which means color information is fully intact. GIF is nowadays only useful for animation.
