Hi recently upgraded by ACER laptop (model 4630z) GL40 chipset from a t3400 to the Extreme X9000 CPU and all i can say is wow- lighting fast. X9000 (2.8ghz, 6M cache, 800 MHZ). The GL40 will only support a maximum of 800mhz FSB unfortunately. Did alot of research with successful implementation.

Jan 06, 2009 · I have a GL40 chipset. My laptop is a WalMart special - Compaq CQ50-139WM. Currently I have a Celeron 575. I'd like to go to something faster. I've scoured the forums and haven't found a whole lot. The service manual for the CQ50 indicates that there is broad processor support but I'm assuming this doesn't take into account the different chipsets.

None of the these shows what type of chipset I have. Even HP's technical manuals only show what type of chipsets are compatible with each configuration - not specifically which chipset I have. (2) Does the following information from HP REALLY mean that the GL40 chipset limits my laptop from upgrading to the otherwise max 8 GM of RAM?

Oct 19, 2010 · Candidate system would also need bios cpu microcode to support 1066Mhz FSB CPUs as well. Same theory applied to 965PM chipsets, they are electrically compatible with series-4 penryns, but would not boot with them installed (eg: P8xxx). Can anyone volunteer to test a GL40 with a 1066Mhz FSB CPU to prove it works?
