(I found info about Ubuntu dropping hotplug scripts in 2005 ...) In essence, what is the correct way to load firmware for a kernel driver, at boot time, if the driver is builtin ?

Can confirm it works. Seems like it has to do with the VPS host using an older linux kernel which does not support hotplug. So it will only be resolved when OVH updates their hosts. – fmcato Dec 17 '14 at 22:36
