The Microsoft Product Lifecycle Search states, "Releases known as Components follow the Support Lifecycle of their parent Major Product."I cannot find a reference to the parent and presume it's Windows XP SP3, however I believe Windows 7 Professional was origanally released with IE8.

Jan 11, 2014 · Since I upgraded to windows 8.1, a lot of websites (like facebook etc) keep telling me that my browser is outdated and I need to install the latest version, but this is the latest version so does it mean that they don't support IE 11 ? Its like I'm using a really old browser except I'm not, I'm using the latest IE. Does anyone know how to fix this?

If IE6 weren't from Microsoft, but still had the same endemic big security problems, being actively exploited from everywhere, not interest in fixes from the making company and being used still by 10-20% of internet, specially in the corporate world, probably Google would phase out the support anyway.
