Dual IPv6 and IPv4 VLAN template- supports multicast, layer 2, ACLs for layer 2 and IPv4. Switch stacks and SDM templates: In mixed hardware switch stack and catalyst 3750, all the stack members should deploy similar SDM template that is hoarded on stack master.

Jul 24, 2012 · When preparing a network for IPv6, I often hear network administrators say that their switches are agnostic and that there is no need to worry about them. Not so fast. Yes, LAN switches function mainly at layer 2 by forwarding Ethernet frames regardless of whether the packet inside is IPv4 or IPv6 (or even something else!) However, there are some functions on a switch that operate at layer …

VLAN Routing with Layer 2 Switch is done with the help of a Layer 3 device, a router. Mainly, in the router, in layer 3, gateways are created for the VLANs. These gateways are the subinterfaces under the physical interface. For each subinterface, an IP address is assigned. Our VLAN Routing example topology is below:

For Layer 3 IPv6 multicast support, when the ingress leaf switch receives a packet from a source that is attached on a bridge domain, and the bridge domain is enabled for IPv6 multicast routing, the ingress leaf switch sends only a routed VRF copy to the fabric (routed implies that the TTL is decremented by 1, and the source-mac is rewritten ...

Mar 26, 2012 · I've been using IPv6 since about 2001, in many types of environments, I've never once ran into a switch or hub issue with IPv6 (unless it was managed). As Skillet said, it's layer 2, switches don't care. In fact I'm ashamed to say the switch I'm using at home, which all my stuff is dual stack, is from the late 90s and it works fine.

Thanks for the help but I found some further information. Some switches (2955, 2960, 3560 or 3750) can act as a "multicast querier", taking place of a multicast router without actually needing to support multicast routing. This means you dont actually need IP Services IOS or a layer 3 switch…
