May 18, 2011 · Hello, Using FreeBSD for the first time. Need to compile some code that needs libpng (so in fedora for instance I would need libpng-devel). How do I install that? It is not in ports/devel neither in port/graphics and a search of this forum provides very little help. Thanks.

Libpng was written as a companion to the PNG specification, as a way to reduce the amount of time and effort it takes to support the PNG file format in application programs. Most users will not have to modify the library significantly; advanced users may want to modify it more.

Libpng was written as a companion to the PNG specification, as a way to reduce the amount of time and effort it takes to support the PNG file format in application programs. Most users will not have to modify the library significantly; advanced users may want to modify it more. The library was coded for both users.

Nov 23, 2004 · Description. Multiple buffer overflows in libpng 1.2.5 and earlier, as used in multiple products, allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via malformed PNG images in which (1) the png_handle_tRNS function does not properly validate the length of transparency chunk (tRNS) data, or the (2) png_handle_sBIT or (3) png_handle_hIST functions do not perform sufficient bounds checking.

This patch adds APNG support for to the PNG decoder, makes the default imgContainer implementation support basic animations and turns on unknown chunk support in libpng. Because most of the imgContainer code is the same as the code in imgContainerGIF, I will be making imgContainerGIF inherit from imgContainer to save code.

libpng is the official PNG reference library. It supports almost all PNG features, is extensible, and has been extensively tested for over 23 years. The home site for development versions (i.e., may be buggy or subject to change or include experimental features) is https://libpng.sourceforge.io/, and the place to go for questions about the library is the png-mng-implement mailing list.

I'm not sure; I'm not a FreeBSD user. I don't immediately recognize the .tbz extension. If I had to guess, it is probably a .tar.bz2 file (because .tgz is an abbreviation for .tar.gz).It might be a compiled version of the software, in which case you install it like you do other compiled software (but I've no idea what mechanism that is on FreeBSD).
