My original router is an AC-capable router (R7000) and due to me needing VPN access to my LAN, I cannot use the EA6900 as main router (also doesn't support VPN). I will make an effort not to buy additional equipment to establish the wifi link and that includes trying DDWRT on the EA6900 (after having ensured it will support wireless bridging).
