Mar 31, 2014 · The specific variant supported by Lync 2013 is a single narrowband (32 kbps) option which results in a lower bit rate stream of comparable quality to G.711 audio. Some of the Lync-compatible IP desk phones natively support this codec and in theory could negotiate G.726 instead of G.711 in constrained bandwidth scenarios.

Microsoft Lync does not support sending or receiving calling and connected name in certain scenarios (like call forward and call-transfer). Cisco UCM sends its calling name and number to Microsoft Lync Mediation Server, but Lync only displays the calling number and no name is displayed. Lync 2010 cannot be configured for Call Forward Busy.

With the increasing number of ITSPs that support Direct SIP to Lync, it would be very helpful if the Lync Mediation Role supported the G.729 codec. This would reduce the bandwidth requirements on the link between the Lync server and the ITSP. Also, it would be nice if Lync could support H.264 for HD video.

The camera is hardwired with limited codec’s, one specifically is H.263 that is supported with Lync 2010. Unfortunately that codec was dropped from support in 2013 and higher systems, which is why it doesn’t work with Lync 2013 or Skype for Business meetings or clients.

So far there has not been an official release on Cisco and Microsoft Lync interoperability from either company. As things get spun up in the labs and official testing begins there has been some talk at TechEd and other events on what this could look like.
