Apr 13, 2010 · Normally you don't need to use SMTP authentication when connecting from localhost. Why do you want to use SMTP and authentication at all? It looks like PEAR::Mail also has a PHP mail() function interface and a Sendmail interface, I think I'd use one of those when sending mail via localhost.

From my little bit of testing here it seems that the "Enable SMTP over SSL/TLS" setting only works with port 465 (SMTPS), and does not work if port 587 is specified. My mail server has the same SSL/TLS configuration for both port 465 and 587. But pfSense notification only works with SSL/TLS enabled if port 465 is specified.
