I've done some more digging into this issue and the answer is the following: The DB2OleDB provider from the feature pack does not support transactions, but the HIS (Host Integration Services) does. Also you have to use DISTRIBUTED TRANSACTIONS and set XACT_ABORT ON before the call to BEGIN DISTRIBUTED TRANS.

I did some investigation to see what cause that error to happen by using sql profiler and found out that "ITransactionLocal interface is not supported by ace.oledb.12.0".

Aug 12, 2015 · HI All, I am using information designer to trigger a stored procedure in SQL Server. The stored procedure exports data from a SQL database table to a template Excel file (i.e. with headers, formatting etc. included) using ?insert into OPENROWSET('Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0', ?)? T-SQL code. When executed in SQL Server, the procedure is working as required.
