The console version also will not, but the console has never been very good at handling Unicode anyway. I've tried using Microsoft AppLocale but that still won't really get it to accept those filenames. For now I must manually rename each file before running it through MP3Gain/MP3GainGUI.

Sep 09, 2009 · The reason this is happening is that mp3gain.exe never got updated to use Unicode, although it allegedly did if you look at its documentation. What seems to have happened is that only MP3GainGUI.exe was moved to Unicode, and that only in the "Do not use this version unless you really need the experimental Unicode support" version.

Jan 10, 2018 · Did you try the beta version of MP3gain? It includes an experimental Unicode support which might help with your problem. I think I managed to mp3gain some files with kanji tags and filenames, but I'm not 100% sure. Do you know if the filenames correspond to Unicode or some Japanese character encoding such as Shift JIS?

This is because although MP3 Diags passes such names correctly to MP3Gain, MP3Gain doesn't seem to use Unicode even in the beta version that allegedly added Unicode support. Anyway, testing this took me all of 2 minutes, so I might have missed something. If somebody knows how to make MP3Gain use Unicode names, please let me know.
