So if you do not have any Internet connection whatsoever, you can still install it. Let's assume you have just installed Ubuntu. The kernel running should have been compiled from the same sources as ndiswrapper is. The compiler used for compiling kernel should be same as the one used to compile ndiswrapper. To make sure these conditions are met, run cat /proc/version and modinfo ndiswrapper and make sure that they match both compiler and kernel versions.

Dec 08, 2011 · NDISwrapper. NDISwrapper cards are NOT SUITABLE for base-station use - they don't do master mode. NDISwrapper is basically a layer of interfacing glue to use Windows drivers with Linux, and so it denies access to some of the more interesting &/or esoteric functions of the wireless card (because NDIS has no programming interface for them, I guess).
