The router can act as a wireless base station or a wireless repeater in a wireless distribution system (WDS). A WDS expands a wireless network through multiple access points. A wireless base station connects to the Internet, can have wired and wireless clients, and sends its wireless signal to an access point that functions as a wireless repeater.

Technical Support does not provide free help setting up WDS between NETGEAR access points and non-NETGEAR equipment. It is not possible to create wireless bridge between NETGEAR wireless routers and NETGEAR wireless access points.

Re: Using R7000 in AP mode with WDS? The best way to configure your network, is one base router (DHCP Server) and the rest AP's but you need to use ethenet cables between base router and AP's. You can set up 3 routers with the same SSID's, but change the band channels on the router.

Is the WDS/Repeater mode available on the R8000? Currently, the WDS/Repeater mode feature can only be supported without security. Therefore, we have removed it from the R8000. NETGEAR will implement this feature again with security support around the end of Q4.
