I google some more and learn I need to register the nuvi and get an unlock code. I have no usb cable so I call Garmin. Hold forever.

I hit the dots as requested, it re-calibrated, then this screen popped up: “NO DETAILED MAPS FOUND THAT SUPPORT ROUTING. THE NUVI CANNOT BE USED WITHOUT THEM.” I shut it off, turned it on, unpluged it, plugged it back in many times.
