Just install the nss-mdns package, set nsswitch.conf appropriately and FreeNAS will start to resolve names via mdns. However: it doesn't work. nss-mdns is a linux package. [email protected] wrote an adapter for FreeBSD that's included in the nss-mdns source since 2008, but it seems broken and he doesn't seem particularly motivated to fix it.

May 31, 2013 · WARNING: No NSS support for mDNS detected, consider installing nss-mdns! I am using avahi for zero-conf networking. I have cross compiled it for the mips. I am able to run it very well. It is assigning IP address automatically to board. But I am getting this warning when I run the avahi-daemon. I have searched the forums for this.

Mar 18, 2018 · (X.local might be resolved with nss-mdns but X.Y.local will not be.) nss-mdns will check SOA before every request to resolve .local names, meaning that neither nss-mdns nor Avahi need to be disabled to allow .local queries to be served from unicast DNS. (These two checks are only enabled in minimal mode or if there is no /etc/mdns.allow file.

Jan 09, 2015 · I have no problem starting avahi-daemon on my other ipv6-enabled machines with use-ipv6=no. use-ipv6=yes/no should determine whether ipv6 is used for advertising, not hang avahi-daemon. But this may be related to the fact that my device is a dumb access point with eth0/eth1/wlan0/wlan1 bridged.
