I want to work with linux and boot it off of a USB drive. My problem is that my boot sequence says nothing about booting off of USB. It only has the usual Hard disk, CD or IDE device, floppy. On my friends new dell the boot sequence options include USB device. Don’t worry, now you can use your USB drive as a boot medium, and install newer versions of Ubuntu even if your BIOS doesn’t support a USB boot! 2014-9-23 · Everyone may be in no mans land with non-standard bios. In general if you disable all that stupid uefi secure boot junk you should be able to boot to a common distro on a usb. More than a few distro's offer solutions to boot into uefi on usb and dvd.
