So in a nutshell, if the Petromax 500CP package says "Superior Quality", then its a good thorium bright white mantle and if it doesn't say that then it's a lesser grade "test" style mantle that will not hold up as well. I also had a small batch of Petromax double tie Tilley style mantles, but those seemed fine and didn't have any issues.
