Dec 11, 2013 · PHP version 5.6 brings support for file uploads larger than 2GiB.. We can say "thank you" to Ralf Lang for the initial patch that fixes bug #44522 , which was open since 2008.. During testing uploads of files with a size of 4 - 11GiB on my PHP-CGI setup, I noticed that files above 4GiB did not get uploaded correctly.

What are your tricks/solutions for reading and doing operations on very large files in PHP? Update: Here's an example of a simple codeblock that fails on my 6 meg file - PHP doesn't seem to throw an error, it just returns false. Maybe I'm doing something extremely dumb?

I've had trouble in the past with reading the '/tmp' file in a file upload. It would be nice if PHP let me read that file BEFORE I tried to move_uploaded_file on it, but PHP won't, presumably under the assumption that I'd be doing something dangerous to read an untrusted file. Fine. One should move the uploaded file to some staging directory.
