The PIX 501 does not support VLAN's, if you have to have 2 VLANS's, you could use a router. If you have a router in the network or lying about doing nothing, you can configure the router to be the routing device between the VLAN's.

May 08, 2008 · Refer to Private VLAN Catalyst Switch Support Matrix to determine whether your platform and software version supports PVLANs. ... It should be noticed that in this configuration there is no need to configure a VACL on the primary VLAN because the PIX does not redirect traffic out of the same interface it came from.

First, the PIX Firewall is an inline security filter, not a router, and therefore uses static routes to direct traffic out of the interfaces. Feb 27, 2006 · It sounds like you're suggesting router on a stick, using Pix as the router?? We'll have multiple VLANs on 4500 and I was hoping we could use 4500 to do inter-VLAN routing (unless destination is DMZ on Pix), therefore, bypass the Pix to speed things up. Is this not possible?? The 4500 is running native IOS.
