When I play Portal with my XBox 360 controller connected and on, it automatically recognizes the gamepad and lets me use it to move around with the left and right analog sticks. I know your reason for using a controller, but the PC version was much easier to do those difficult challenges in portal 1, I had a hell of a time trying to get all gold in Portal 1 on xbox 360 with the controller. Not many people even attempted those extra goodies for xbox360. Just sayin.
