Apr 02, 2008 · I have a fairly standard Postfix + Cyrus + Amavis + SpamAssassin + ClamAV setup. I'm trying to get Postfix to let me use PCRE lookup tables for the header_checks filter (in particular, to block various attachments). The problem is, my Postfix doesn't seem to support PCRE. When I type postconf -m, I get several results, but pcre isn't one of them.

Dec 17, 2019 · For some weird reason, someone in his infinite wisdom, decided to remove PCRE from RHEL 8 and thus from CentOS 8. A temporary solution, is to convert your postfix configuration to use REGEXP lookups, which work in the same way but are slightly slower.

Postfix also supports Perl-compatible regular expressions, which I’ll refer to as pcre. If you’re used to regular expressions in Perl, you’ll find that regexp patterns are a bit different. If you want pcre support, be sure you have a pcre library to link with when building Postfix.

pcre support is distributed in a separate package in Ubuntu. You can have postfix installed without having postfix-pcre installed. You can confirm that this is your problem by listing all available lookup table types, typically you will have regexp installed but pcre missing:
