The reason the PS3 often forces 720p even if you have 1080i and 1080p checked off is because most games have a native resolution of 720p and that setting is where the game looks best. All this fool is doing in his video is upscaling the game from its native resolution (which in the case of COD is actually 600p and not 720p) to 1080i or 1080p.

Jun 07, 2005 · hell, PC games at 1024x768 looks a lot clearer to me than GT4's 1080i mode. let alone a HDTV resolution on a monitor. Xbox games at 720p also look a lot better than GT4's 1080i. to me, something just isn't right about GT4's 1080i. to the point where even it's own 480p mode looks better in a way. again, i don't know why that is. but it is.

If a PS3 game doesn't support 1080i at all, there's no way to force it, unfortunately. The PS3 doesn't have the scaler chip necessary to do it without performance loss. @Subject2Change said: Could be cause 1080i while higher resolution than 720p looks worse? Actually most PS3 games released today do NOT support upscaling to 1080i. Recent 1st-party games such as Pacific Rift and LBP have raised the ire of some disappointed PS3 owners who were hoping for 1080i support in those games, so that they could play them (in HD).
