Running QEMU with RBD¶ QEMU can pass a block device from the host on to a guest, but since QEMU 0.15, there’s no need to map an image as a block device on the host. Instead, QEMU can access an image as a virtual block device directly via librbd.

Jan 17, 2014 · As you may know Ceph is not part of Debian Wheezy, thus QEMU-KVM was not compiled with the Ceph support (--enable-rbd with both librbd and librados).This article is just a quick tip to detect if your QEMU-KVM has the support of Ceph.

If you edit the configuration file under /etc/libvirt/qemu with a text editor, libvirt may not recognize the change. If there is a discrepancy between the contents of the XML file under /etc/libvirt/qemu and the result of sudo virsh dumpxml {vm-domain-name}, then your VM may not work properly. Add the Ceph RBD image you created as a <disk> entry.

Glance and cinder works fine, but kvm refuses to start new instance because rbd is not supported for volume. Is there any way to add this support? If this configuration should work, what can I check? PS As i understand rbd support should present in kernel and in qemu-kvm
