See this comment for a little more background, but the short answer is that you should use RVM to recompile your copy of Ruby, because you've upgraded your libreadline and your Ruby is compiled against the older version.. I don't think we'd ever want Pry to depend on rb ...

Libedit is the default library used by the Readline module on Mac OS X builds of Ruby. Although, if you download the source and compile Ruby yourself, you can also download readline and compile with readline support instead of libedit.

The reason Ruby didn't automatically include readline support was most likely because you didn't have libreadline, and its development files, installed on your system. When you run ./configure it does an inventory of your system, and uses that data to create an "optimal" Makefile.

Sep 29, 2012 · I'm more than comfortable on the command line, but I've googled around quite a bit but I'm not having any luck with the suggested solutions. I figure there are probably at least a couple of Ruby newbs out there beside myself that are running into the same issues so I wanted to get your input.
