    https://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php?topic=15675.0
Feb 11, 2015 · As far as I know, "hot plug" means that if the drive/cables/bios are all capable of "hot plug" then the following should happen. If the sata cable has a "hot plug" connector (slightly shorter connections on some of the pins) then the drive should perform a clean shut down.

It fixed that issue and now I noticed something new. Both my SATA drives, HDD and SSD, show up as "Removable", like a USB drive! There's a lot of magic solutions online, including registry editing, but basically what I did was go to BIOS and set SATA hot plug from enable to disable. Fixed the issue. Now its just regular USBs that show up and eject.

In our Z600 Z400 workstations I found that my "hot swap" or hot plugging capability only was active when I configured the SATA port I plugged my backplane SATA-to-eSATA adapter into was set to "eSATA " mode in BIOS. If that was left in the default SATA mode in BIOS hot plugging would not work.

Jun 19, 2015 · I wanted to be able to hot swap drives, on a Gigabyte GA-Z97-GAMING 3 M/B. Seems the Gigagbyte BIOS has 3 SATA MODE SELECTION options: IDE, AHCI and RAID. It was set to RAID, which makes sense as the D drive is a pair of matched SATA III drives in a BIOS (software) RAID 1 pairing. C drive is an SSD with the OS on it.

Nov 23, 2017 · Sata hotplug is an integral part of the SATA specification at 1.5, 3 and 6GB/s. For some reason which apparently not even HP support know, not only has sata hotplug been disabled in the Elitedesk 800 g3 models, but all mention of it is missing from the bios setup, along with any ability to reenable hot plugging.

Jun 23, 2014 · As stated above, you do need AHCI. I have a recent Gigabyte Z87 Desktop board and the BIOS has settings for each SATA port -- separate from the SATA controller mode (AHCI, etc.). Hot Plug is one of the settings and it is turned off by default. The SATA settings are under a tab that falls under the Peripherals Section.
