Jul 29, 2013 · SATA AHCI Support in Windows XP Professional SP3 x86. I'm building a PC for my friend. It will have Windows XP Pro SP3 x86 on one drive and Windows 7 x64 on another. Both these drives are going to be SATA, because that's what I have to use, along with an IDE DVD drive. The motherboard is an ASRockN68C-GS FX.

May 26, 2016 · HarryTri, That's not possible because my XP installation doesn't have SATA support, and switching to SATA mode in BIOS causes a blue screen of death since Windows can't read the hard disk. I tried both modes in Linux and didn't notice much of a difference, so I'll leave it with IDE mode.
