Saxon XSLT and XQuery Processor / [saxon] Xinclude support?

    http://sourceforge.net/p/saxon/mailman/message/12864646/
I know Saxon doesn't include support for Xinclude at present. That's OK, because I wrote a simple stylesheet to get around it. However, I would like to inquire whether you plan to add support for Xinclude in a future release.

Aug 07, 2019 · it works at least with the Schematron engine (in ant). But it is a hack and will lead maybe to other issues. It would be much cleaner if I just could pass a Saxon config file to activate the XInclude support of the Saxon. But as far as I can see there is no such option here, is there?

I'm sure you'll get an answer or comments about Saxon in particular, but as a more general answer to your question, So what did I do wrong in my first XSLT? I'll observe that XSLT 2.0 does not contain any provision requiring processors to perform XInclude processing on the stylesheet document.

When the -xi option is used on the command line (or the equivalent in the Java API) to invoke XInclude processing, and the selected XML parser is the version of Xerces included by default in JDK 1.5 (specifically JDK 1.5.0_09), then it appears that namespace declarations in the document fetched using xi:include are not processed correctly, resulting in spurious XML parsing errors.

Saxon supports XInclude only insofar as it will pass a request to the XML parser to do XInclude processing. That mainly applies to Xerces. According to http://xerces.apache.org/xerces2-j/faq-xinclude.html, Xerces does not support the xpointer() scheme in XInclude.

Adding Xinclude support to an XSLT stylesheet - Stack Overflow

    https://stackoverflow.com/questions/15114144/adding-xinclude-support-to-an-xslt-stylesheet
So far, we support all of the most common browsers. Another idea would be to add XInclude resolution support into the existing XSLT stylesheet. However, there I am struggling with what is input and what is output, because these are really three stages (XML input as in the files -> FLat XML with Xinclude resolved -> HTML.

The SAXON XSLT and XQuery Processor

    http://saxon.sourceforge.net/
Sep 27, 2018 · Saxon-HE does not offer all the capabilities that were present in Saxon-B. Most notably, support for Saxon extension functions and other extensions was dropped, as was the capability for writing extension functions that rely on dynamic loading of Java or .NET code (a new facility for "integrated extension functions" is however available).
