Jan 14, 2014 · I have used the device on several prior versions of Windows 95 through XP with no issues at all with the serial ports. With Windows 95-XP the serial COM1 port had RTS and DTR lines set "off" by default. I just upgraded to a new computer with Windows 7 and now having an issue with the serial port.

Jul 04, 2011 · Since the Port number is assigned by Windows when you connect a serial port, and released when you disconnect it, there would be no advantage in setting all ports to COM1. If two ports were set to COM1 and in use at the same time, this would cause problems, because one serial device would overwrite the information from the other in memory.
