Re: SSD drive instead of HP SAS drives I run them and will share my experience below. As HP customer I was very satisfied to find that Smart Array P410, P411 controllers properly support them - HP is competing on quality, and not creating pitfalls for non-HP product.

Re: P400 smart array won't detect any SATA Drives! I don't know if you are aware of this nice description of supported vs. unsupported, working vs. not working by a well known forum member ... however, reviewing the P400 quickspecs will show you what is supported by HP.

The H240nr Smart HBA provides flexibility to run in HBA mode or simple RAID mode.
