Just working on a comparison between the two with regards to their support for selenium tests. It seems like a bit of a wash...on one hand you've got convoluted custom xpaths in SmartGWT that require the IDE to properly locate them.

Jun 16, 2016 · The application is running in SmartGWT 4.1. When you right click on elements during Selenium IDE recording sessions you can add commands via "Show All Available Commands". All of them except for assertTable, verifyTable, waitForTable and storeTable don't support scLocators.

May 25, 2010 · The "Selenium support" just added to the SmartGWT nightlies doesn't really help us much as it is predicated on using Selenium IDE- generated tests rather than Webdriver from Java. Has anyone got a "By.scLocator()" implementation, or any other suggestions of techniques for testing SmartGWT with WebDriver? Cheers, Robert. --
