May 09, 2009 · Core i7 is not available in a dual socket mother board configuration. For a dual socket Nehalem core system you will have to go with a Xeon cpu. Rendering really benefits from all the cores it can use. If I was rendering most of the time in SolidWorks I would be looking at the dual socket Xeon Nehalem core motherboards and filling both sockets.Reviews: 8

I personally have tested solidworks on all 4 machines and have come to the conclusion that solidworks works better on a dual core with two good video cards then either the single or dual quad core's. Solidworks seems to rely more on video and memory then multicores.Reviews: 31

Oct 14, 2010 · Rendering in SolidWorks is cpu based. Rendering is multi-threaded and will use all the available cores, including hyper-threaded ones, to 100%. For fast rendering you want the highest Ghz, most modern architecture cpu, with at least 4 and preferably 6 or more cores. Core i7's or Xeon 3600/5600 are the latest and greatest from Intel.
