Jun 20, 2013 · I'm trying to get Spiceworks 6.2 SNMP v3 working with Cisco devices and I can't seem to get past configuring the darn snmp account in SpiceWorks. All of my cisco devices are currently configured with SNMPv3 using md5 auth (with a password of course) and a des privacy password.

Jul 12, 2013 · I'm worried that if I cannot successfully configure SNMPv3 for a printer, then other devices/systems will also be a problem. Spiceworks promotes the addition of SNMPv3 support as of version 5 so I'd really like to utilize their newest and most up-to-date features, if possible.

Part of the appeal of both SNMP and ping is that they can be used even in bare-bones form. An admin who knows a few SNMP commands or someone working with ping from the command line can still find out a lot about what’s going on around the network.
