Jul 31, 2007 · The kernel doesn't support the ebtables 'filter' table. This is despite the fact that lsmod shows: The kernel I'm using is 2.6.18-8.1.8.el5xen (from rpm kernel-xen-2.6.18-8.1.8.el5) and ebtables is from rpm ebtables-2.0.8-1.

Ebtables: modprobe: can't change directory to '/lib/modules': No such file or directory The kernel doesn't support the ebtables 'filter' table. It's possible that it doesn't work in earlier versions as well I haven't gone back and tested it

ebtables or ebtables_filter kernel module does not load automatically with RHEL 7.3. Even when the module is loaded manually bridges were not created. Issue seen with ebtables-2.0.10-15.el7.x86_64.

The supported ebtables and bridge-nf code is the code in the 2.6 kernel, the 2.4 patch is only supplied because there is still a demand for it. All development and testing is done on the 2.6 kernel. If you want to use a 2.4 kernel, then go to the download section and get the latest 2.4-ebtables-brnf patch.
