1- Yes they designed the game with a gamepad in mind, doesn't mean it was a port. In fact the combat in Witcher 2 is far more complex than Witcher 1 which is a PC game only 2- The PC (Windows) version was far from "a bad and unstable port", and again it wasn't a port at all.

Oct 03, 2012 · I was a little bummed when I saw there was no controller support. I gave it a chance anyway and the keyboard/mouse controls work perfectly. Combat lends itself to the KB/mouse; it is not like combat in Witcher 2 & 3.

Nov 26, 2012 · As seamless as the Witcher 2's controller support is, there are several useless buttons that can be programmed as hotkeys for magical powers. It makes it easier to play a mix of magic and swordplay. Last edited by Tuskan GA ; Nov 26, 2012 @ 11:13pm

The 360 controller is the default controller for PC these days. So all the button signs in the game correlate to the 360 pad, but CDPR just didn't do a good enough job of making it controller compatible. I mean it's playable with a controller of course, you might use it and still find it preferable, but M/KB definitely works better overall.
