The problem is that the p7m file is a digital signed pdf, so if the user can't see it and more important if he can't open it, that's a nasty issue and I think a Thunderbird bug, because in other mailer the file is visible and the user can open it.

Hello everyone, I have Thunderbird 45.3.0, I received an email with a pdf file and a p7m, but Thunderbird does not show me the pdf file, I tried to install add-ons ThunderPEC, DisableChunks and P7MON, but none of them solves the problem (which I later read that the bug has since been fixed internally to Thunderbird).

Nov 10, 2007 · Thunderbird probably thinks that the.p7m file is part of an S/MIME message, so it handles the file internally, not as a normal attachment. To make Thunderbird handle it as a normal attachment, the program that sends the message must declare it as a normal attachment, not as part of an S/MIME message.
