As our map and navigation software technologies evolve they may require newer hardware technology to support this. In case the hardware is no longer compatible, updates will not be possible. Services and updates can only be used on the device they have been purchased with and cannot be transferred to another TomTom device.

North American 720's so far are ok but I'm not sure about European models. IF you are ok with your device, get an 8 or 16 sd card (SanDisk is a good brand) and install. You should then be able to purchase the latest 1000 map using Home. BUT, check with support as to whether your 720 model is good to go.
