tvtime doesn't recommend or suggest any alsa package, because it's not compiled with libasound support yet. To have a meaningful audio experience along with the tv picture a user with an alsa sound system (iow - everyone) will need to install oss-compat so that tvtime audio integration will work. If there is a better alternative please let me know.

I plugged in my headset > and i got audio just fine. OK. Then tvtime just can't set the volume level because it's using the obsolete OSS mixer.

Jul 31, 2012 · This is an issue that creeps up on the boards every now and again and catches people off gaurd. I'm having the same problem, but I believe the problem is because tvtime still relies on OSS (open sound system) support; which you don't have installed (i'm using alsa myself); the indicator being that stuff found in /dev/mixer and /dev/dsp are not there, and those are generally used by OSS

To hear the audio through ALSA using tvtime (or other programs that don't support it directly), run the following command after starting tvtime: arecord -D hw:1,0 -r 32000 -c 2 -f S16_LE aplay - It basically records at 32kHz Stereo from the SAA7134 ALSA source (hw:1,0 or change accordingly), and plays it through your default ALSA output.

Nov 25, 2009 · Well even when the 340e is finally working, there won’t be analog support because of a lack of support in the dvb-usb framework. THe HVR-1200 should support analog, although there is currently no ALSA audio support so you will not be able to use tvtime to watch the raw video stream (Steven Toth is working on this). Cheers, Devin

Jan 26, 2014 · I have also reinstalled the alsa, which has now messed up all system sounds. At first it was just the browsers, now I cant even get an advanced list of sound devices. The sound, alsa and other components are some I am completely unfamiliar with. I am running a x64 debian based system, a custom build built off of the Ubuntu system with KDE.
