May 24, 2017 · By default, the Windows UDF Driver (implemented in the \Windows\System32\Drivers\Udfs.sys file) supports UDF versions up to 2.60, providing read-write support for DVD-RAM, CD-R/RW, and DVD +-R/RW drives when using UDF 2.50 and read-only support when using UDF 2.60. XP’s Windows Explorer does have some support for UDF disks, which will allow you to read those produced by some third party software, such as Direct CD — but not all such software, and not even those from every version of Direct CD. Please note, however, that this is strictly a read-only matter.

Jun 22, 2004 · Windows 2k has native support for reading UDF 1.50, XP probably the same, so there shouldn't be any need for writing fs device drivers as such. I'm not up to the task myself, so I don't really know UDF 2.0 and higher is not (yet) supported. One big advantage (among many others) with UDF is ofcourse the support for >2GB files.
