If you wound an enemy enough that he would be left with less than 100 HP, you can use that order to finish him off. Sure it costs 1 more CP that finishing off that enemy with someone else but in exchange, you can get some advantages out of it:

Barely ever used sniper in main campaign, most levels are too spread out, snipers too slow and poor sight lanes. for some reason the game doesn't tell you this until like the 5th or 6th mission but you can retreat slower units like snipers and lancers and re-deploy them at camps you capture which can help. in general i found it's better to not bother with more than one in the beginning and ...

Sniper Support deals 100 damage to any enemy soldier, and cannot be evaded in any way. This gives it one major purpose: to finish off enemy aces who would otherwise evade your attacks. There is also an enemy sniper ace with less than 100 hitpoints, so it kills him outright.
