Feb 12, 2010 · If I understand this right, VLC (at least the portaudio component) of it can be compiled/built i a way to support ASIO output (which I would appreciate a lot). The only reason for not incorporating it into the official release is a license issue for ASIO.

Out of date and incompatible drivers may cause audio anomalies in VLC. For example, installing the WDM_A406 driver for a Realtek AC97 chip will cause VLC to clip audio badly. VLC runs perfectly fine when the bad driver is removed and the correct one installed. ASIO . ASIO support in VLC exists, but you will have to enable it by compiling manually.

Nov 22, 2008 · I switched over to 003R and now I need the same thing: video sound through ASIO. VLC player support ASIO, and there's the ASIOWmpPlg on Sourceforge which is an ASIO driver for Windows Media Player, but either of them crashes my system as soon as I launch playback.

May 20, 2016 · The work around I've got going on right now is VLC is playing to Output 3 and 4 and I have those assigned to the SPDIF output, and I have a cable looping that to the SPDIF input and told stereo tool to use that as the source. Not exactly elegent and I don't think there is a way to automatically restart it if it looses the stream.
