It's a pity that VMware ESX server 3.x doesn't support USB bus and so your virtual machines are not able to access the USB devices directly while the VMware Server or VMware Workstation is. However, there are some applications which depend on such devices, for example they require to check a licence file stored in USB token. Sep 26, 2012 · VMware ESXi 5.1 has USB 3.0 support, but it's currently limited to using the vSphere Web Client to map client-side USB 3.0 devices to the remote VM. Long story short, turns out ESXi 5.1 doesn't really support USB 3.0 in the way you might think. In other words, if your system running ESXi 5.1 has USB 3.0 ports, that's nice!
