Oct 21, 2014 · We are attempting to use a Huawei USB Modem for one of our virtual servers, running Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, on a HP Proliant DL 380 G7 running VMWare ESXi, 5.1.0, 1065491. The USB Device only attaches as a SCSI device, despite having followed the guidelines outlined in this link VMware KB: USB support in ESXi/ESX 4.1 and ESXi 5.x .

Sep 26, 2012 · We are using an USB Server (like Keyspan) to attach our GSM-Modems to the VM's. This is without rebooting the ESX-host. The HW isn't expensive and you can move the VM in your Cluster without thinking where you must boot the VM for recognizing the USB-Device.

Feb 02, 2012 · It is my understanding that ESX 4 supports usb to the VM's. I also understand that VMotion doesn't support the VM's that use usb dongles. I plugged a usb dongle into the ESX 4 host, however I do not see where I need to configure the VM's to use the usb dongle.
