Apr 28, 2017 · Frankly, the only thing that’s a bit disappointing here is that Reason supports VST 2.4 but not the newer VST 3.0. In any other environment, that wouldn’t be much of a demerit, but it’s a bit odd given that they’ve just done ground-up plug-in support.

I’ve generally been in favour of the Props’ decision to keep Reason a hermetically sealed environment, but it had been getting increasingly frustrating not being able to use other tools like Maschine and Komplete, MPC and favourite VST effects when working in Reason. And plug-in support has been the number-one user request for a long time.

Oct 09, 2017 · Reason may support VST3 in future, but for now they made the decision to support only VST2 – which is a legacy product. Why? There may be the simple answer that the integration support of VST3 would be simply to high for it’s first introduction with version 9.5 – however, there may be more interesting reasons behind.

Jun 10, 2018 · Yes, and why do they support it? Because it's legacy code inside and they've come a long way with VST support. But even the competitors start to ditch the support for legacy plugins. Steinberg starts to force VST3 and e.g. Apple has dropped AU32 support for Logic. Let's face it: 64bit and VST3 are the future.
