Nov 10, 2010 · 32/64 bit problem with wine from ABS. I need to install an older version of wine on my 64-bit Arch. So I took the PKGBUILD from ABS and lowered the version. It build up OK, but wine or winecfg says: wine: '~/.wine' is a 32-bit installation, it cannot support 64-bit applications.

Just like you can't easily convert from a 32bit system to a 64bit system in place without a clean installation, you can't convert a 64-bit Wine prefix to a 32-bit one. The only way to achieve this is to either blow away your wine prefix and replace it with a 32bit one, or create a separate 32-bit prefix. Wine recommends the second of these options.

May 28, 2012 · wine has to be specially compiled and then packaged (see this page to get an idea) to support both 32 and 64 bit executables at the same time. Given that the majority of Windows programs is still 32 bits, the package you installed probably only contains the 32 bit runtime for wine.
